Walk. Walk. Fashion Baby.
A few months back A2 decided to participate in NEWH's Product Runway. A charity event geared to raising money for Scholarships forWomen in Hospitality. The premise of the event is for a design team to create a garment out of materials from their paired Fabricator. (There are more rules, like no professional models, no more than 3 team members, no more than $500 worth of product, which some, but most dont follow.) We were paired with Shaw Hospitality, a carpet fabricator and a favorite of ours.
How do you celebrate carpet in a runway ready look? Our garment highlights the fabrication of carpet in a runway look, spinning the perception of a carpet and showcasing the durability and strength of weaving and binding.
The look is made of two signature pieces. The top is an abstract look at the carpet loom and weaving into a solid carpet with the under layer sheath dress made completely from carpet backing - Utilizing the backing as the support for the dress, much like an actual carpet. No additional fabrics or materials were used in an effort to showcase only Shaw products.
By deconstructing carpet and showing the beauty in the unseen products that go into making carpet as durable as it is we are able to highlight the strength of carpet.
Runway Ready_Vasiliki walks the Runway
Being a model in your living room is way different than strutting your stuff on the Runway. I'm clumsy and walk funny in heels. But I was ready to show off our dress and all the work we had done. So when game day came, I split on our dress, primped my hair and was ready for the runway.
All the models were lined up in alphabetical order based on our firm name. Of course that placed me first in line. I had to set a good tempo. I took a breath in, held my head high and started down the Runway. CRACK! RIP! TEAR! Yes ladies and gentleman my dress ripped on the seam as I walked up the runway steps. I share this with you for an authentic experience. Mishaps happen. You laugh at them, you place your hand on the ripped seam and you keep on walking down that runway with your hand held high. What else is a girl to do? I walked. Turned left, pose. Turned right, pose. Big smile. And kept walking. Thankfully my awesome handy best friend saw what happened and stapled me right up for the finale. It is now my favorite moment from the show.
We didn't place. But I'm not too bummed. The other dresses were amazing. Having done it once, we are ready to get out it again. :)
